Taking this Logic course has opened my eyes up to how much is really involved within this subject. When you hear someone make a statement, you just hear the statement and think that's it. When really there is many other things to think about such as if it's an argument or non-argument, inductive or deductive, valid, strong, weak, cogent etc. It goes on forever, before these couple weeks of classes I would of never put so much thought into a single statement.
I smell an argument here. Is the conclusion that this class makes you think more deeply about what your hearing in a statement?
ReplyDeleteI have felt the same way about this class thus far. It makes me think about things that I would not have thought about in the past. I have actually been catching myself deciding whether or not something is an argument between two peers in the cafeteria. After that i try to decide whether it is inductive or deductive, if in fact i think it is an argument. The list goes on, like you said. Every day conversations are starting to turn in to logic analysis for me. It's kind of weird, but it makes me think about a lot of things before they come out of my mouth.
ReplyDeleteThat's the spirit! When you find yourself using logic in your everyday life, you will get lots more practice, and get really good at it!
ReplyDeleteYou're completely right. I've probably done more thinking in relation to this class OUTSIDE of the classroom itself or homework, etc. than any other class I've ever taken. I keep realizing how many technical terms I use - or rather misuse - in everyday speech.
